Mumbai: Display paperwork of plots granted by the State

In order to help the government maintain its record of land granted by the state government on rent or on sale, there is a possibility that lessees and occupants of such plots will be asked to display documents validating such contracts in public view.

So far there has been no information regarding a possible penalty, should such information not be so displayed.

It is noteworthy that as per rules, should a person plan to sell a land granted by the state government, he or she is required to pay as much as half the price to the government as ‘unearned income’. In an event any such transactions take place without the approval of the government, the state may take an additional 15 percent as unearned income.

Statistics show that in Maharashtra, the lease of at least 650 plots have expired.
